About

Jennifer Carson in her studio

I picked up my first paintbrush at 40, in the margins of a full life — in the quiet hours I carved out for myself.

I began during a season when everything felt chaotic, and I needed one thing that was steady and mine. I didn't decide what to paint. I just followed what steadied me. What kept coming back was the quiet after the storm — the moment the light returns, the water begins to settle, and you can finally take a breath.

I painted the pause because I needed it. I think a lot of us do.

The places in my paintings aren't real. You won't find them on a map. They're built from memories of the northern Ontario lakes where I grew up, and the shores of the Great Lakes I've known as an adult. I remember the light and rearrange it until it feels like the place I need.

Working in acrylic, I paint atmospheric landscapes that explore light, memory, and the moments that invite us to slow down.

My hope is that these paintings become a place where you pause — that each time you return to one, you notice something different. A shift in the light. The texture in a wave. A reminder to breathe.

If a painting speaks to you, I'd love for it to find its home. View the collection or get in touch about a commission.
